An Oasis

From Usa River, we drove towards Moshi and turned off of the main road through a small village and lots of big open empty spaces like this - nothing around but the odd home, a shepherd and his flock or long stretches of open plains.

After a long dusty drive out through a seemingly empty and arid landscape, we get to a little cluster of palm trees something like this...
(that's Mount Kilimanjaro in the background!)

... and arrive at this gorgeous water hole. This little gem of a spot wasn't exactly easy to get to - I have no clue how muzungus first discovered it was even there!

Bethany, Saumu and I spent a lovely afternoon hanging out at the water hole, alternating between roasting in the sun and cooling down in the crystal-clear water. We had a snorkel set to play with and we  saw a few turtles, a catfish and lots of African cichlids (fish).

Pretty colors...

Saumu was too scared of the water to go in, so she just dangled her toes in and watched from afar.

Heading back down the dusty dirt track (not really a road...) towards Usa River at the end of a great day :)
